Husky Talk- Conversations With Cully and Conlon is all new. We have UConn Women's Basketball legend and Western Connecticut State University Head Coach Maria Conlon to talk shop this week. The WNBA season is starting, and Maria is excited to watch. She believes the Western Conference will be better than the Eastern, the preseason games have been entertaining. Maria expects Paige to have a great season in Dallas and win Rookie of the Year. She said my girl Kaitlyn Chen could make the roster and contribute for the expansion Golden State Valkyries, plus she is the first Taiwanese player ever drafted. Maria and Joe D'Ambrosio enjoyed busting on me because I always thought Chen was awesome. Maria said she is a good leader, does what she is told, knows how to facilitate and can score when needed. I am pulling for her and agreed to get a jersey of Chen if she makes the team.
We also talked about Sue Bird being named the first managing director of USA Women's Basketball's National Team. With 5 gold medals and a ton of experience playing overseas, Maria said Sue is an excellent choice for this position. She also has a new podcast called a Birds Eye View. Doubtful Ill ever be a guest, Maria will and maybe she can put in a good word for the Best Podcast Host In The Universe!
Maria is stocked with a recruiting class of 10 new girls for next season. Now, she is concentrating on looking at the classes of 27' and 28' along with running the AAU program her daughter is in. Maria can do it all and we wish her a happy Mother's Day.!
