Today, we are pleased to have Dr. Joseph Gaugler on our podcast. Dr. Gaugler serves multiple distinguished positions in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota among others. He is a professor and the Robert L. Kane Endowed Chair in Long-Term Care and Aging, the Director of Center for Healthy Aging and Innovation and Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Caregiving. Dr. Gaugler has his entire career dedicated to aging with a focus on Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and dementia care. Dr. Gaugler talks about what has led him to work on dementia care, the terms Alzheimer vs dementia, the current status of the care received by people with dementia, the use of antipsychotics on them, how to make an informed decision on nursing facilities, the mental health issue, and the exciting future of dementia treatment and care.
