Welcome all to the DrumQuig Podcast Episode 13!

We are back from almost a YEAR LONG hiatus and back better than ever!

For this episode, we reached back into the archives to find someone we've been wanting to talk to for many, MANY years and finally just asked and got a resounding "Sure!". That person? None other than Derek Roddy!

Dad and I met Derek 15 years ago at a local music store, Seminole Music. At that time I had never seen anything like his drumming in person and was astounded by his talents. This episode showcased so much more.

Roddy talks about being "honest" in music, how musicians have ruined music and a myriad of topics that really make you take a moment to reflect on his opinions. We covered the Dream Theater auditions (fitting given the recent touring and Portnoy being back in the band) and how Roddy felt Portnoy leaving was all part of a genius plan that as you can see, has worked out marvelously.

We talked metal, life, snakes (briefly), and how mistakes are okay when it comes to tracking music. It's part of the process. It was truly an honor to get to spend over an hour talking with a man with such insights and opinions that you don't generally hear.

Fun fact: Yes the intro is Derek playing from the episode and no I didn't know I was going to use it until watching it back. It just seemed to fit so well.

Enjoy!
