Description

Christmas feels different this year. It’s hard to celebrate freedom and joy when someone like Dele Farotimi remains detained for daring to speak the truth. In Nigeria, freedom of speech is treated like a crime, and those who demand justice are met with intimidation. I can’t help but wonder—what does it mean to celebrate Christmas in a country where oppression thrives? We must not forget, that this season is not just about craving for some utopian hope; it is a season that should remind us that silence in the face of injustice is complicity, and such impedes on our dream of having our hopes and aspirations come through. Today into the future, freedom must be fought for, even when it comes at a personal cost.
