Intro

James 1:26. Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a

tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

James 3:1. Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers,

because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

DIRECTS (v2-4)

DESTROYS (v5-6)

Proverbs 16:27. A scoundrel plots evil,

and on their lips it is like a scorching fire.

DEFIES (v7-8)

Matthew 19:26. With man this is impossible, but with God all things are

possible.

Romans 3:13-14. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice

deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing

and bitterness.

DIVIDES (v9-12)

Luke 6:45: A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his

heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his

heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Finally

Matthew 12:36-37. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on

the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your

words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
