Description

Recently, I had the privilege to sit down with Josh Tiessen, an international award-winning contemporary artist based outside of Toronto, Ontario. Josh Tiessen is best known for his hyper-surreal shaped oil paintings that reflect the interaction between the natural world and human made structures.
Josh humbly and honestly shares his love of art and how the early beginnings of his life shaped his artistic journey.

His parents were missionaries in Moscow, and the impact of the culture and the people that surrounded him left an indelible imprint that he carries to this day. This early exposure to diverse cultures and the gift of time to develop his artistic skills have significantly shaped Josh's artistic journey.

“I have endeavoured to drive together two strands - spirituality and art - as a way to inspire greater appreciation for the natural world, motivate, environmental stewardship, and provide hope in anxious times (with irony and a little humour thrown in for comic relief)”
