Description

Zalmen Glauber is a Hasidic sculptor who followed an unexpected path from real estate and psychology studies into a life of art. In this episode, he shares how childhood fascination with miniature worlds grew into a deep love for sculpture, and how encouragement at a young age gave him permission to create. Zalmen reflects on his journey through dyslexia, discovery of Tanakh, and the importance of validation from mentors and family in shaping his artistic voice.

We also explore the founding of the first Hasidic art gallery in Williamsburg, which gave new visibility to Jewish artists and sparked conversations about creativity in the community. Zalmen talks about navigating halachic questions in sculpture, the impact of communal support, and the growing Jewish art scene he helped pioneer. His message to young creatives: don’t wait for permission—just start, even if your first attempts are ugly, because each step forward is part of the journey.

About Zalmen:

Zalmen Glauber, raised in a Hasidic community in Brooklyn where art was often discouraged, discovered sculpture later in life after careers in psychology studies and real estate. With his rabbi’s blessing, he trained under renowned artists and now creates figurative works rooted in biblical and Judaic themes. His sculptures aim to open eyes within his community and beyond, offering a visual bridge to Jewish tradition.
