Bronson Kaufusi and MattyP are back with Part 2 of Jason’s recent lecture on tax strategy!

In part 2, Jason dives into the benefits offered by claiming the Real Estate Professional Status (REPS), and explains how active REPS status vs passive REPS status changes how depreciation loss works. He also covers the strategy behind converting traditional 401K and IRA funds to Roth Retirement Accounts without paying taxes on the conversion. He also touched briefly on 1031 Exchanges, Opportunity zones, and Primary Resident Tax Exclusion.

This lecture was centered on a concept best said by Tom Wheelwright.

“The government doesn’t want you to pay taxes. The government wants you to invest in things that create jobs, that create wealth, that create prosperity. And one of those things is real estate.  Investing in real estate isn't just about building personal wealth; it's about providing solutions to societal needs. By creating housing, revitalizing communities, and improving infrastructure, investors help solve problems the government often cannot address alone—and the tax code rewards those contributions with incentives like depreciation and deductions."
