Hi!

In our last lesson, we talked about the analytics “Advanced

Mode.”

Today we’ll learn how to customize your channel.

The customization page on your Dashboard lets you change the

home page layout, branding, and basic information for your

channel.

The Layout tab allows you to select and organize what

viewers see when they come to your channel.

You can add a video spotlight first. This will be the main

video someone sees when they land on your channel and you

can showcase a different video depending on whether or not

your visitor is a subscriber.

For people who aren’t subscribers, you can add a channel

trailer that highlights what you create, what viewers can

expect from your channel, and an encouragement to subscribe.

For a returning subscriber, you can showcase any featured

video. You can change or remove this video at any time.

Just click the three dots and choose from the drop-down

menu.

You can then add featured sections. Sections allow you to

customize what viewers see when they land on your homepage.

They’re made up of videos and playlists and help you organize

and showcase content from your channel. To add one, simply

click “Add Section.” Choose whether you want to feature videos,

playlists, or channels.

For videos, you can choose from a list that prepopulates the

videos for you.

For example, “Uploads” will show any new content you have

uploaded to your channel. “Popular Uploads” will automatically

showcase your most popular new videos.

Playlists lets you showcase playlists that have already been

curated by you or other creators.

“Single Playlists” will display a “carousel” of videos you’ve

added to that playlist, showing the most recently added video first.

“Multiple Playlists” will let you group multiple playlists under

one section and allow you to add a section title. Channels allows

you to showcase your other channels, those of your collaborators,

or any other favorite channels you may have.

Now let’s look at the Branding tab. With this tab, you can add

various elements to help make your channel unique and to let

viewers know what they can expect from that channel.

First, add a profile picture. This will appear wherever your

channel is represented on YouTube, such as next to your videos,

comments, and user search results.

You can also add a channel banner image. This will appear across

the top of your channel and give viewers a visual sense of your

channel and content.

Make sure to follow the image size requirements to get the

best results.

You can also add a video watermark, which will appear in

the bottom right-hand corner of your videos.

Viewers can use that watermark to subscribe to your

channel.

You can choose when it shows during the video: at the end,

at a custom start time, or during the entire video.

Finally, the Basic Information tab allows you to edit your

channel, add a channel description, add translations for your

channel name and description, add links to sites you’d like

to share with your viewers, and add your contact information.

Once you make changes to any of these tabs, be sure to click

“Publish” to allow the changes to become visible to your

viewers.

Tomorrow, we’ll talk about copyright in YouTube Studio.
