Hi!

In our last lesson, we talked about mobile analytics. Today, we’ll

look at growing your YouTube channel.

Here are some tips and tricks you can use to improve your

performance.

1. Commit to Posting Several Times in a Week.

People aren’t going to find your channel if you only post once

in a while.

Reports show that creators who update more than once a week are

getting better results with more recommended views than those who

post less often.

Especially if you’re just starting out and are trying to grow your

audience, try to post three or more times a week.

This will also create a library of videos for your users, allowing

them to watch more and giving them a reason to subscribe to your

channel.

2. Develop a Sustainable Production Workflow.

What brings people back for more isn’t an award-winning video

that takes half a year to produce.

It’s regular content uploaded at predictable times. No matter

what type of video you’re planning, make sure you can develop

and create it on a regular basis and find some way to streamline

your process.

Keep refining until you have a well-oiled production line.

One of the best tips is to create a home studio so that when it’s

time to yell “Action,” all you have to do is turn on the lights

and start the camera.

3. Start with a “Hook.”

This will depend on the content of your video.

For example, if you’re showing a “how-to” video, show the end

product first to hook your viewers into watching the whole

process.

You could also start with a personal story to grab your

audience’s attention.

Just make sure your “hook” relates to the subject matter

of the video and merge quickly into the meat of your video

so you can keep the viewer’s interest.

4. Keep Titles and Credits Short.

Your viewers have limited attention spans. If you have long

opening credits and titles, they’re just going to look for

the next interesting thing.

Your whole opener should be no longer than five seconds.

Titles and credits should be short and punchy and get straight

into the video.

5. Edit Out Distractions.

If you have long pauses, meandering speeches, bounce from

one topic to another, or are just generally a boring speaker,

your viewers will click the next video in line.

Don’t give them a reason to do that! If you do veer away

from your main topic, make sure it’s an interesting veer

with catchy visuals or an engaging personal story.

Keep your videos fast paced and interesting by cutting

quickly from one scene to the next and editing out any

boring bits.

6. Copy from Top-Performing Videos.

We’re not advising you to plagiarize them. But delve into

your analytics and find out the common denominator among

your most popular videos (or anyone else’s).

Look for patterns like subject, delivery, or editing style.

Then make more like those.

7. Go Live.

Live-streaming has something of a learning curve, but

once you master the format, it’s one of the easiest ways

to generate appealing content.

It’s quite popular, too, and will get you longer watch

times on your videos. It’s fantastic for engagement because

you’re interacting with your viewers in real time.

And even fairly inexpensive smartphones or webcams can

generate a decent live video.

Tomorrow we’ll discuss monetization in YouTube Studio.
