Aliens land on Earth… but what if the people around you suddenly aren’t themselves?
In this episode of Mart and Trev’s The Deja Review, we revisit the eerie sci-fi classic Invaders from Mars, before comparing it with the wild 80s remake Invaders from Mars, directed by cult filmmaker Tobe Hooper.
The original 1953 film became a Cold War era science-fiction favourite, telling the story of a young boy who discovers that aliens have secretly landed on Earth and begun controlling the minds of adults in his town. Decades later, the 1986 remake brought the story back with bigger special effects, stranger alien creatures, and a much darker tone.
Mart and Trev break down the Cold War paranoia, the creepy alien designs, the practical effects, and the biggest differences between the two films, asking whether the remake improves the sci-fi horror or if the 1953 original still captures the most unsettling invasion.
Does the 1953 classic still lead the invasion…
or does the 1986 remake take control?
Look out the window… something just landed in the sandpit.
