The Roth IRA allows you to invest your after-tax contributions where you can grow your investments tax-free. Contribution limits and income caps apply, but it can truly be one of the best tax-advantaged retirement account out there.

There are no minimum required distributions, unlike the traditional 401(k). With no tax on the withdrawals, this account allows you some tax diversification that can benefit you if you are in a higher tax bracket when you withdraw in retirement. It's great for the young or people in low-income bracket parts of their lives. It’s like paying taxes on the seed, not the harvest.

Why is it underused?
- Lack of awareness or financial education
- Confusion over eligibility and limits
- Short-term mindset over long-term planning
- No immediate tax benefit (vs Traditional IRA)
- Many people prioritize employer 401(k)s and never explore further

Despite some common myths like it's not for high-income families (they should check out the backdoor Roth), there are some people well suited to a Roth IRA. The best fits are young professionals, side-hustlers and gig workers, those in low-income years (career transitions, gap years), and those who want more retirement control.

So, why is the Roth IRA underused? It’s not because it’s weak—it’s because people don’t know how powerful it is. Now you do. The question is: Will you use it?

Do you have a Roth IRA? What’s been your experience?
