Dr. Brogdon’s Easter sermon series, “When the Gospel Meets Our Failure.”
Lent is a season of reflection and renewal, and of honesty. The gospel does not ignore misunderstanding, rebellion, betrayal, or even violence. It tells the truth about them. Failure is not the end of God’s work, it is often the place where God meets us and reshapes us.
We will follow the gospel story through the disciples’ misunderstandings, the conspiracy to kill Jesus, and the hard truth of Good Friday. And on Easter, we will proclaim that resurrection means God gets the final word, not our sin, not our rebellion, not even the failures of the church. In a time when many have grown disillusioned or distant from organized religion, this series is an invitation to rediscover a gospel that is honest about failure and bold about hope. There is a word from the Lord for such a time as this.
This week's sermon message is based on the scriptures: I Samuel 16:1-7, 10-13 and Mark 8:27-38
