Title: All-Powerful Care
---
1 Peter 5:6–7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (ESV)

In this sermon, Jed Gillis explores how humility and trust in God are deeply connected, using 1 Peter 5:6–7 as the foundation. True humility is not about comparing ourselves to others or thinking less of ourselves, but about recognizing God’s authority and submitting to His care. All people live under God’s mighty hand—either as protection or judgment—and pride distorts that relationship by tempting us to take control of what only God can manage.
Humility, Gillis explains, is demonstrated by “casting all your anxieties” on God. Holding onto worry is a subtle form of pride, a way of saying, “I must carry this burden myself.” Whether concerns are sinful fears or legitimate cares for others, believers are called to cast all their burdens on God, knowing He is both powerful and caring.
Worship plays a key role in humility, starving pride and fostering trust in God. Practices like prayer, Bible reading, and even everyday activities—like sleep or hobbies—can remind us of our limits and point to God’s sufficiency. Humility involves resting in the knowledge that God’s wisdom, power, and timing are perfect. It also means trusting that the same God who saved us through Christ’s sacrifice will care for us in all things.
Ultimately, humility is surrendering control and allowing God to reign as King, trusting that He cares deeply for us and will exalt us in His perfect time.
