Psalm 148
Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts!
Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars!
Praise him, you highest heavens,
and you waters above the heavens!
Let them praise the name of the LORD!
For he commanded and they were created.
And he established them forever and ever;
he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.
Praise the LORD from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all deeps,
fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy wind fulfilling his word!
Mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars!
Beasts and all livestock,
creeping things and flying birds!
Kings of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the earth!
Young men and maidens together,
old men and children!
Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven.
He has raised up a horn for his people,
praise for all his saints,
for the people of Israel who are near to him.
Praise the LORD! (ESV)

Eric Sipe's sermon on Psalm 148 delves into the universal call for all creation to praise the Lord. Beginning with the heavens, Sipe emphasizes how angels, celestial bodies like the sun and moon, and even the highest heavens are summoned to glorify God. This cosmic praise extends from the heights of heaven down to the depths of the earth, covering every aspect of creation. From sea creatures to weather phenomena, mountains to fruit trees, and all living beings, everything is called to acknowledge God's majesty.
Sipe underscores that this praise is not just limited to natural elements but includes all humanity—kings, princes, young and old alike. The reason for this universal worship lies in God's creative power, providence, and unchangeable decree. He created everything by His command and sustains it by His will.
The sermon also highlights a special focus on God's people. Through Jesus Christ—the exalted horn—believers are brought near to God. This proximity calls them to a unique role in this cosmic choir of praise.
Ultimately, Sipe's message is clear: everything in creation is designed to display God's glory. As believers, we should recognize our identity in Him and join in this eternal chorus of praise.
