Title: The Body of Christ
---
Romans 12:3–8
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Jed Gillis's sermon on Romans 12:3-8 encourages believers to humbly recognize and utilize their God-given gifts for the edification of the church. He emphasizes that each member of the body of Christ has unique functions, mirroring the variety within a physical body. This diversity is essential for a healthy church, where every believer's contribution is vital.
Gillis explains that spiritual gifts are not superpowers but abilities or opportunities empowered by the Holy Spirit to build up the church. He stresses using these gifts faithfully, whether it's teaching, serving, or showing mercy. The focus should be on fostering growth and unity within the local congregation.
He challenges listeners to evaluate how they can practically contribute to their church community. Rather than getting caught up in identifying specific spiritual gifts, he urges them to seek ways to encourage and support one another in their faith journey. By doing so, they fulfill their role as interconnected members of the body of Christ, working together for God's glory.
