Title: Work Hard, Sleep Well
---
Psalm 127
A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
Unless the LORD builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one’s youth.
Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. (ESV)

Jed Gillis's sermon, "Work Hard, Sleep Well," centers on the message of Psalm 127. He emphasizes that all human efforts are ultimately futile without God's involvement. Whether building a house or watching over a city, if God is not at the center, our labor is in vain. This principle extends beyond physical tasks to every aspect of our lives, including personal goals and family endeavors. Gillis underscores the importance of recognizing our dependence on God for success and fulfillment. As we strive to achieve, we must also rest in God's provision and trust that He works even when we sleep. The sermon calls believers to work diligently but also to rest confidently in God's sovereignty and goodness, ensuring that their ultimate aim is to glorify Christ in all they do.
