On Episode 66 of The Grant O Show, we sit down with Chubby Carrier, Grammy Award–winning Zydeco artist, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame inductee, and leader of Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band.
Born into a family of Zydeco musicians in Acadia Parish, Chubby is a third-generation artist who grew up surrounded by the sound of Louisiana’s accordion-driven rhythms. He played his first gig on drums at just 10 years old, picked up the accordion at 14, and by 1989 had launched his own band, bringing Zydeco to audiences across the United States, Canada, and Europe.
In this episode, we talk about:
Chubby’s early years growing up in a Zydeco family
His Grammy win for Best Zydeco or Cajun Album of the Year in 2010
What it means to be inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame
How he’s inspiring kids through his Zydeco from A-Z education program
Why Zydeco is more than music—it’s culture, community, and connection
With nearly four decades on stage, Chubby Carrier continues to keep Louisiana’s unique sound alive, blending tradition with a mission to pass it forward to the next generation.
