The veil of ignorance is a philosophical concept introduced by John Rawls to encourage impartial decision-making in matters of social justice and ethics. It asks individuals to imagine themselves behind a hypothetical veil of ignorance, unaware of their own attributes, social status, or position in society. From this position of ignorance, individuals are asked to design principles for society or make decisions that are fair and impartial, as they do not know how their decisions will personally affect them.
