Gina, a 16 year girl from Miami, who was the subject of an exorcism, and the ABC televised show, 20/20, aired the event. Was it Demonic Possession, or Demonic Obsession? The actual act and rite of exorcism, seems like something that is in the Catholics churches past. Although still officially sanctioned, it is a rarity that the Catholic Church allows exorcisms to take place. There are many guidelines if someone is suffering from possession, that the church needs to follow before the act of exorcism can even be considered.
However, is it possible to be clinically or spiritually misdiagnosed? Due to a combination of cultural beliefs, spiritual beliefs, lack of understanding about mental health, religious interpretations, and the fear of the unknown, the answer is YES.
