Description

Rick Roth, Executive Director of the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team, has liked the “creepy crawlies” since he caught his first snake (Northern brown) on the way home from kindergarten. In 1990, Rick and a few friends founded the Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team (CAVPT). They began by leading nighttime field trips to see the spring breeding activity of spotted salamanders, wood frogs, and spring peepers. Most people had never seen this and had no idea it was happening. Cape Ann Vernal Pond team is a nonprofit organization dedicated to vernal pond conservation and education. They bring people together for education and the preservation of nature in a fun and exciting way. They instill passion and stewardship for the natural world in people of all ages thereby helping to save our corner of the world. Today Rick brought several “friends” with him, including a wood frog, a spring peeper, a toad, spotted turtles, and, of course, some snakes!
