Description

Chris Moore, Director, Crane Estate, invites you to experience this magnificent 2,100-acre coastal estate where past meets present. Four miles of Atlantic-facing Crane Beach flank the quiet, tidal waters of Essex Bay and the Crane Wildlife Refuge. With a rich past of fishing and farming, Castle Hill was transformed into a European-style country estate in the early 1900s. Chicago industrialist Richard T. Crane, Jr. first purchased the land that would become The Crane Estate in 1910. Crane was captivated by the beautiful landscape, and over the next two decades worked with some of America's leading architects and landscape architects to shape his summer retreat, sited with hilltop vistas of the Atlantic in an area of the property known as Castle Hill.

Today, educational and recreational programming runs throughout the year with kayaking, hiking, summer camps, great house tours and events, and the ever-popular summer concerts on Thursday evenings.
