He also tell us in, Matthew 7, starting at verse 15, “Beware of the false prophets, [teachers] who come to you dressed as sheep [appearing gentle and innocent], but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them [that is, by their contrived doctrine and self-focus]. And lastly, in verse 21, He says: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven." Amen!
When we call anyone in "church leadership" by a title of distinction, (i.e., apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher) we err! In doing so, we elevate mere mortals to a position of reverence that should only be given to our Lord and Savior. For He is the only One who shed blood for us!
These appointments were given as gifts by Lord Jesus before He ascended to Heaven, as stated in Ephesians 4. These appointments are functions of administration, for the building up and perfecting of the saints. NOT titles of exaltation!! Therefore, be cautious who you call anyone, "my pastor," "my bishop," my prophet," etc. Lord Jesus says that we are all brothers and sisters, and that is what we should call one another. The Bible teaches that no one in the Body of Christ is greater than the next. We are all on one accord! And we are to judge and test every spirit by the fruit they bear to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world!
The book of Titus in chapter 1, gives us a great pictorial of the qualifications of an elder, who is also called bishop or overseer of the Church of God. They should be a man of unquestionable integrity, blameless, not addicted to wine and not greedy for dishonest gain, but financially ethical. Sad to say, none of which we see going on in most apostate churches today. Amen! 🎯 REPENT and BELIEVE and TURN back to God!
