Listen, both the Old and New Testaments reveal an utterly holy God whose holy nature demands wrath against all sin. Wrath is the reverse side of His holiness. God cannot set aside His wrath toward our sin and remain holy! So what is sinful man to do in order to make themselves right with God? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! There is nothing we could do to earn our salvation nor stave off God's wrath that is rightly & justly deserving of us, for God's justice demands PAYMENT for sin!
That PAYMENT came in the Person of Christ Jesus laying down His SINLESS life as a PROPITIATION for our sins. Christ's sacrificial atoning death on the cross, satisfied God's justice for payment of sin. So what's the big deal about Christ being our propitiation? Well...
Propitiation means “averting the wrath of God by the offering of a gift!" It refers to the turning away of the WRATH of God (the just judgment of our sin) by His own provision of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (THE SIN OFFERING) on the cross. Propitiation is used in the New Testament to describe the pacifying, placating, or appeasing of God’s wrath. God's wrath was averted from us (those who have called on the Name of the Lord to be saved), and came on Jesus Christ instead! He paid the penalty for our wrongdoing! He took on the full wrath of God on our behalf! This is why we don't play around with sin, nor do we condone sin! We live lives in complete obedience and appreciation for what Christ has done for us... otherwise we face eternal destruction and separation from holy God! Amen! 🎯 REPENT and BELIEVE and TURN back to God!
