Description

Kate and Emma guide you through the ways that our food system contributes to climate change. In this first episode on food + climate change, we speak about veganism as an individual lifestyle action to reduce your own carbon footprint, while simultaneously revealing to you all why both of us no longer identify as vegan. We dive into the limits of “going vegan” as a substitute for systemic government action — addressing issues like food waste, single-use plastics, expensive “vegan” alternatives, eating local, composting, and more. In next week’s show, Kate and Emma will navigate racial and socioeconomic disparities produced by our modern food system, touching on structural changes needed so that food can serve as a solution to the intersecting public health and climate crisis.
