Description

(Insecurities of the King)

Introduction
”Then the Lord said to Samuel, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the Lord all night.“
‭‭
1 Samuel‬ ‭15‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

* How did we get here from a heroic Saul to God is fed up
* Can we go from Gods first choice to God regretting giving us kingship

Insecurities

”There was a wealthy, influential man named Kish from the tribe of Benjamin. He was the son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, of the tribe of Benjamin.“

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

* Through God’s permissive will a human king was chosen, God’s first choice.
* Saul’s greatest enemy was his insecurities
* You are chosen to be the leader of the whole nation of Israel, surely there should be something great about you
* The question is do you see what God sees in you
* Are you ready to surrender your own views about yourself and accept Gods views

”Saul replied, “But I’m only from the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest tribe in Israel, and my family is the least important of all the families of that tribe! Why are you talking like this to me?”“
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭9‬:‭21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

* There’s a huge contrast and contradiction between verse 1 and 21

”And he said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, has declared: I brought you from Egypt and rescued you from the Egyptians and from all of the nations that were oppressing you. But though I have rescued you from your misery and distress, you have rejected your God today and have said, ‘No, we want a king instead!’ Now, therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by tribes and clans.” So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel before the Lord, and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen by lot. Then he brought each family of the tribe of Benjamin before the Lord, and the family of the Matrites was chosen. And finally Saul son of Kish was chosen from among them. But when they looked for him, he had disappeared! So they asked the Lord, “Where is he?” And the Lord replied, “He is hiding among the baggage.” So they found him and brought him out, and he stood head and shoulders above anyone else.“
‭‭
1 Samuel‬ ‭10‬:‭18‬-‭23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Lesson: We should stop looking at our potential and status when responding to the call of God, it will never be enough. Instead we should trust in God who gave us small victories and move from glory to glory and from strength to strength, putting Him ahead.

* Saul thought the assignment of being a king was about him and failed to see a bigger picture

4 Result of in-secured leadership:

1. Failing to follow and respect protocol
2. Unreasonable demands
3. Disrespect to others
4. Threatened by subordinates

Conclusion

”“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.“
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

* Jesus want us to do great in life
* With Him there’s no limit
* Jesus died for our sins for us to be Royal Priesthood, peculiar people
* He is the king of kings
* He never fails
