Diana was in transition, moving back home with her family after years of diplomatic service overseas. They were temporarily housed in a hotel, waiting for their belongings to arrive. As she was packing up to leave, she spotted a Gideon Bible in the nightstand. She had seen it in countless hotel rooms before, always ignoring it, but this time was different.
She felt an undeniable urge to take it.
Conflicted, she hesitated—she wasn’t the kind of person who took things that weren’t hers. But something inside urged her on, so she slipped the Bible into her bag. That night, in their empty new home, she had nothing to read to her children at bedtime except that Bible. As she read aloud, an unexplainable peace washed over her.
That night, sleeping on the hard floor, she had the best sleep of her life.
She kept reading. The words of Scripture drew her in, filling her with peace and a sense of purpose she had never known. Eventually, she found a church, gave her life to Christ, and continues to grow in faith. That one moment in a hotel room changed the trajectory of her entire family.
This story isn't a coincidence. This is evidence of a truth found in Isaiah 55:11: "So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."
A small book, a passing moment, an unexpected encounter—God uses them all to draw people to Himself. The Word of God is alive, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). And whether placed in the hands of a schoolboy, a Muslim naval officer, or a tired mother in a hotel room, it carries the power to transform lives.
How Can We Be Part of This?
Pray – Pray for those who receive God’s Word, that their hearts would be open.
Support – Ministries like the Gideons rely on financial support to print and distribute Bibles.
Share – If you have a Bible, don’t keep it to yourself. Someone in your life might be searching for truth without even realising it.
The world is full of people searching. The answer has already been given. Let’s make sure they can find it.
Prayer Prompt :
"Father, thank You for the power of Your Word. I pray for those who have yet to encounter the truth of the gospel. Soften hearts, open eyes, and draw people to Yourself through Scripture. Use me to share Your Word with those who are searching, even if they don’t yet realise it. Let Your truth transform lives, one heart at a time. Amen."
