In this passage, we begin to study the Old Testament background of the Immanuel prophecy in the Gospel of Matthew. Seven centuries before, at perhaps the most tumultuous time in the history of Israel, this prophecy was given to the King of Judah at a time of civil war and regional tensions. In the first part of this four part series, God offers to give a sign to the king, but the king turns down the Lord's offer.
