It wasn’t all that long ago that society had a very positive view of old age. We believed that old age meant gaining experience and wisdom. We believed that, through gaining said wisdom, we would then be able to teach others about how we lived life so we could help the younger generations avoid our mistakes. Somewhere along the lines, though, growing old became less about having and sharing wisdom and more about being diseased and disabled. We shifted our mindset about aging from an empowering mindset with thoughts of health and vitality to limiting beliefs of disease and decrepitude. Although it’d be nice to think that this transition was unintentional, the truth is much more nuanced than that. Over time, the “authority” on old age shifted. And that shift led down the path of destruction we’re currently on…a path the tears the power and independence away from the aging community and toward a healthcare system that hell-bent on scrounging every dollar they can out of society. In this series, we’ll cover the history of the mindset of aging to see how this shift happened. We’ll also talk about what it takes to overcome the disease and disability we deem as “normal aging”, to empower ourselves to be healthy and vibrant at 100 years old. In this episode (Part #2) we talk about:
The 10 events you want to be able to perform at age 100
Why strength and power are the #1 factors to focus on as you age
The 2 areas of aerobic ability you should be training
Why your sedentary lifestyle is making you form to the shape of your chair
So much more…
