Mysterious Bones Found Under School

Last year, workers at Tianwei Junior High School in Changhua County (彰化縣的田尾國中) found something shocking (令人震驚的東西).

While fixing the basketball court, the construction workers found bones under the ground!

The workers immediately stopped the construction work they were doing and called the police.

Everyone was surprised by this discovery.

The question remained: whose bones were they?

There was no coffin or urn nearby.

And there were no synthetic fibers (人造纖維) found near the body, so the burial (埋葬) happened before synthetic materials were invented.

They tried to extract (提取) DNA from the bones.

But the bones were too old!

They were sent to a special lab (特殊實驗室) at National Taiwan University (台灣大學).

They used a method called radiocarbon dating (放射性碳定年法) to find out how old the bones are.

And they found that the bones are super old - around 221 years old!

This means they are from the time of the Qing Dynasty (清朝).

When the school built the basketball court in 1995, they had no idea there were bones below.

Some local people said that this area used to be a graveyard a long time ago (以前曾是墓地), so maybe the bones are from someone buried there (可能是被埋葬在那裡的人).

The Changhua District Prosecutor's Office (彰化地檢署) tried to find out who the person was, but the bones were too old.

They are now asking the public (公眾) if anyone knows about these bones.

If no one knows, the local government will make sure the bones are buried nicely.

Tianwei Junior High School didn't just find bones, they found a piece of history!

Siblings' Go on Sneaky Joyride

When you don't finish your homework, or spend too much time watching videos online, your parents might give you some kind of punishment (懲罰).

Nowadays, many parents find themselves taking away electronics (沒收電子產品) as a punishment.

No video games for a week, no phone for a few days, or even… *gasp*… no WiFi!

What would you do if your electronics got taken away?

Well, two kids in the US State of Florida got a tech time-out.

They were unhappy (不高興) when their mom took away their electronics as a punishment.

And they decided they were not going to sit still (不再坐以待斃).

They took their mom's car and drove it for over 300 kilometers!

Traffic police (交通警察) saw a car driving early in the morning and stopped it.

They were amazed to find a 10-year-old boy driving and his 11-year-old sister with him.

Everyone was really worried because the kids were also missing from their home.

But don't worry, they're safe now!

After talking to the kids, the officers found out that they weren't hurt or in danger.

They just wanted a little adventure because they were upset about their electronics.

Their mom drove three hours to get them.

She was relieved (放心) to see them safe.

The officers explained that since it's a small crime (小小的犯罪) and they're just kids, they won't be in any big trouble.

So, the lesson here?

Maybe it's a good idea to talk about your feelings instead of taking your mom's car for a long drive!

Of course, no one lives forever… we know that.

But some things live for a REALLY long time.

In Greenland, there is a kind of shark that scientists say is between 300 and 500 years old.

And around the world, some trees are almost 5,000 years old!

And in the ocean, there is an animal called "the immortal jellyfish".

When it gets old or sick, it can change its body to become young again… and then it just keeps on living.

We don't know how old each jellyfish is now, but there might be one out there that is older than everything else!

If you have a fun fact, a joke, or interesting news you'd like to share with us, record your message and send us your Tasty Tidbit to newsbites@icrt.com.tw, and you might hear it at the end of an episode!
