Crying in the New Year
Crying.
Laughing!
Or even getting a little angry.
These are all normal ways to show how we feel
Emotions (情感) are part of being human.
Whether we feel super happy or a bit sad, it's okay to express those feelings.
Sometimes, crying can actually make us feel better.
Just like laughing with friends.
Or talking about what's bothering us.
In Taipei, a very different and special event happened on New Year's Eve.
A person on the internet made a plan called "Crying at Daan Forest Park While Ringing in the New Year."
This event was inspired by a famous movie called "Vive L'Amour."
In the movie, the actress Yang Kuei-Mei (楊貴媚) cries on a park bench for seven minutes.
The idea of the event was to remember this scene from the movie
More than 10,000 people online said they were interested in this event.
And on New Year's Eve, hundreds of people actually went to Daan Forest Park to join in.
Some people cried because of sad things that happened in the past year.
But the mood was happy and friendly.
The person who thought of this event said it was just for fun
They didn't expect many people to come.
They wanted people to be happy and enjoy the New Year in their own way.
The actress Yang Kuei-Mei heard about the event.
She was surprised and happy that people really care about the movie.
She even said she would like to go to this event next year if it happens again.
This unusual event turned a scene from a movie into a real-life event where people could share their feelings and start the New Year with a special memory.

Staying healthy (保持健康) is really important.
Eating well, exercising, and staying happy are all things people around the world do to live very long lives.

His name was Tripoli Giannini.
He believed in living a simple life with less stress.

His son, Tripoli Romano, shared that Giannini had hoped to live forever but passed away on New Year's Eve.
He was 111 years and 133 days old.
In Italy, there are many people who live to be over 100 years old.
In 2023, there were about 22,000 people in Italy who were 100 or older.
Most of them were women.
Giannini was born in 1912 and saw a lot in his life, including two World Wars and two major pandemics.

People often say the Mediterranean diet (地中海飲食), which includes lots of fruit, vegetables, and olive oil (橄欖油), is why many Italians live such long lives.
This diet is thought to keep people healthy and help them live longer.

Tasty Tidbit
Hey Jake, what's the longest flight you've been on?
I would have to say Amsterdam to Taipei.
It takes roughly 13 to 14 hours to get from Amsterdam to Taipei. What about you?
14 hours! Flying from New York to Taipei.
Did you know there's a bird that can fly even longer than that?
This incredible bird is called the sooty tern.
It spends most of its life in the air, over the open ocean.
So it does everything while flying? - Eating, drinking, and even sleeping?
Yes! But when it's time to start a family, the sooty tern comes down to land.
That's the only time it rests its wings, just to breed and take care of its young.
How fascinating!
