Kaohsiung Fights Mosquitoes and Dengue Fever
Uh-oh… here's another story about mosquitoes (蚊子).
First, the bad news (壞消息)…
There probably aren't very many people who like mosquitoes, so we all know they're annoying
But did you know they can also be dangerous (危險)?
Mosquitoes can also carry diseases (攜帶病菌) from animal to animal, and person to person.
This happens when they bite (叮咬) one animal, and pick up a bacteria (細菌) or virus (病毒).
Then, when they bite the next animal, the disease is passed on (傳出去了)!
One of these diseases is called "dengue fever" (登革熱), and it is carried by some mosquitoes in southern Taiwan (台灣南部).
And recently, a few people have started to catch (罹患) dengue fever in Kaohsiung.
But here's the good news (好消息)…
The Kaohsiung City Government (高雄市政府) has started to fight back!
Mosquitoes lay their eggs (產卵) in stagnant water (死水), and we can see a lot of them flying around after the rainy weather makes a lot of puddles (水窪).
So the city's health department has sent out almost 900 workers to remove stagnant water, and spray mosquito repellent around the city.
We may not be able to get rid of (除去) all these annoying bugs, or stop dengue fever completely, but it helps to try!

Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away
We've all heard many stories about kings and queens in ancient times (古代).
And nowadays, there aren't many monarchs (君主,國王) left in the world.
But as you may have heard, a very famous monarch has recently passed away (去世).
Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8th, at the age of 96.
And she had been Queen of the United Kingdom for 70 years!
So… what happens now?
Most importantly, her son, King Charles III, is the U.K.'s new ruler.
But it's also important to remember that they haven't only been the Queen and King of the area around England.
Throughout history (歷史上), the U.K. has had many sovereign states (主權國家), all over the world.
That means even though these sovereign states have their own leaders, they still recognize the Queen or King of England as their own monarch.
It still has many of its sovereign states today, including Canada (加拿大), Australia (澳洲), New Zealand (紐西蘭), and a few other countries.
Many of these countries have had the Queen's face on all their currency (貨幣) for years and years…
And now, they might have to change the faces to King Charles, on every bill (鈔票) and every coin (硬幣) in the country!
That's a lot of work, and many countries are still wondering (懷疑) whether they want to have a king at all…
So there may be some even bigger changes ahead of these countries soon!

Man Trapped in the Sky for Two Days
When people talk about gravity (地心引力), they often use a popular phrase (說法).
"What goes up… must come down."
But what if the thing going up is lighter than air
Well, one man in China recently went up, and didn't come down for a very long time!
Two men in China were harvesting pine nuts (採收松子) from pine trees.
And because pine trees are so tall, they had to ride a small hydrogen balloon to float up and collect the nuts from the tree.
But the two men lost control (失去控制) of the balloon, and…
The balloon started to fly away, with both of them still on it!
One of the men quickly jumped to the ground, but the other couldn't escape, and was stuck in the balloon as it floated high into the sky.
The man on the ground ran to find help, but it took a long time before they were finally able to call the balloon man's cell phone (手機).
They instructed him (指導他) to carefully let some air out of the balloon, so that it could slowly deflate (慢慢釋放氣球裡面的氫氣).
But by the time the balloon man finally touched the ground again, two days later, he had already floated 320 kilometers away
Now, the man is safe, although he says his back hurts, because he had to stand in the balloon for such a long time.
So maybe we can change the old phrase about gravity, now…
"If you're going to go up, make sure you know how you're going to come down!"
