Helicopter Saves Hiker in Taitung County

Hiking (健行) is fun.

People hike into the mountains to get fresh air and exercise.

But hiking can be dangerous, too.

Hikers (健行的人) need to prepare (做準備) before they go into the mountains.

Even if they prepare, there might still be an accident (意外).

The hiker might fall down and get hurt.

And if they are alone, there will be trouble (大麻煩).

So, what happens if a hiker is alone (獨自一個人) when they get hurt?

If they are lucky, a helicopter (直升機) will come save them.

That's what happened recently in Taitung County (台東縣).

A hiker was deep in the mountains when he hurt his knee.

He was hurt so badly, he couldn't even walk.

Fortunately, his phone had service.

He called the fire department, and they sent a search-and-rescue team

The team searched (搜尋) for two days to find the hurt hiker.

When they found him, they called a helicopter to come pick him up.

The area was foggy (有霧), so it was not easy for the helicopter to land.

Finally, the helicopter found a place to come down (降落的地方).

It picked the hiker up and took him to the hospital in Taitung City.

Thanks to the search-and-rescue team, and the helicopter crew, the hiker will live to hike another day.

A Mission to Find Alien Life on Jupiter's Moons

Our solar system (太陽系) has one sun and eight planets (行星).

What's the biggest planet?

Is it Earth?

Nope! The biggest planet is Jupiter (木星).

And just like Earth has a moon, Jupiter also has moons.

In fact, Jupiter has almost one hundred moons.

Jupiter is such a big planet, and it has so many moons, that we have to ask… does anything live there?

We don't know!

But recently, we have sent a new mission (新的任務) to search for life (生物) on Jupiter's moons.

The mission is called the "Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer", or "JUICE" for short.

The JUICE mission will visit three of Jupiter's biggest moons.

We already know there is water on these moons.

Scientists think these moons might have oceans of water (水的海洋), like we have on Earth.

And where there is water, there may be life.

That's why the JUICE mission is going to Jupiter's moons to search for life.

Even though it has already left, the JUICE mission still won't arrive at Jupiter for eight more years.

So, the year 2031 might be the year we find life in space.

Australians to Vote on 'Indigenous Voice'

Australia (澳大利亞) is a big country with a lot of people.

Australians (澳洲人) are proud of their country and their history.

Most Australians belong to (屬於) families that came to Australia from Europe more than one hundred years ago.

But, there is another group of Australians, too.

Indigenous people (澳洲原住民) have been living in Australia for tens of thousands of years (好幾萬年).

They have lived in Australia far longer than anybody else.

Indigenous Australians have their own language (自己的語言) and culture (文化).

They also have special songs, dances, and music.

These are some of the oldest traditions (傳統) in the world!

That's why it is strange that Australia's highest law does not say anything about Indigenous people.

It's true! Australia's Constitution (憲法), the most important law in Australia, does not talk about them at all.

That's not good!

It means Australia's laws don't really work for Indigenous people.

But now, many people in Australia want to change this.

They want to change the Constitution (修改憲法), to give Indigenous people a voice (聲音).

What does that mean?

This new law will make a group (機構) called "The Indigenous Voice" (原住民的聲音).

That group will be able to work together with Australia's government, to make new laws for the country.

This group will give Indigenous people a way to decide how laws will work in Australia.

Many people like this idea, but first they need to vote on it (投票).

At the end of this year, Australians will vote on the Indigenous Voice.

If the vote is successful (成功), Australia's Indigenous people will finally get a say in government.
