讓孩子們為之瘋狂科目
A Subject Kids Are Crazy About

Have you been to Ningxia Night Market (寧夏夜市) in Taipei's Datong District?

It's well known for delicious Taiwanese traditional street food (街頭傳統小吃).

Many of the food stalls (餐車) are forty to fifty years old.

You can find oyster omelets (蚵仔煎), boiled chicken (鹽水雞), stinky tofu (臭豆腐), and many more things to eat!

But for one special night, Ningxia Night Market was popular (受歡迎的) for another reason!

It held a dance contest (舞蹈比賽).

Teenagers and children danced.

They didn't dance just any dance.

They danced the kemusan (科目三) dance!

Kemusan means "Subject Three" in English.

It's thought that the dance began two years ago at a wedding in China.

A wedding guest showed his dance moves.

This dance has gone viral (爆紅) on social media.

Together, videos of people dancing kemusan have gotten billions of views.

Back at the night market, some dancers wore leather (皮革) jackets and high-top sneakers (高筒運動鞋), or denim jackets and sunglasses.

But clothes weren't the important thing to see here.

The dancers swung (搖擺) their knees left and right.

They rolled their feet sideways (側身) to the outer edge of their shoes.

They crossed their arms and twisted their wrists (扭動他們的手腕) to a fast beat.

And that was just some of the dance!

Other people ate the night market's food and watched the dancers move.

People like to dance kemusan using their own style (風格). And that's great!

The dance makes them feel happy and full of energy.

Many post their own videos on social media.

They hope to go viral!

Some businesses (公司) have joined in on the kemusan dance craze.

One restaurant chain has a dish named kemusan.

The restaurant's workers do the kemusan dance when someone orders the dish.

As for the Ningxia Night Market, they wanted new young customers (顧客) to visit.

They also wanted customers to spend more.

That's why they had this fun kemusan dance contest!

Have you tried this dance?

男孩在法國獨自生活了兩年
A Boy Lived Alone for Two Years in France

A nine-year-old boy lived in a small town in France.

He went to school every day.

He did very well in school.

Fifth grade and then sixth grade went by.

Nobody worried about him.

Nobody knew he was living by himself.

What happened?

His mother went to live with her boyfriend.

But she didn't take her son.

His mother and her boyfriend lived in another town.

That town was five kilometers away.

The apartment where the boy lived had no heat or electricity (電) sometimes.

There was no hot water.

He couldn't take a hot shower (淋浴) or have a hot bath.

The boy tried to keep warm by sleeping in three comforters (棉被).

The mother brought food to her son… sometimes.

But it was all junk food (垃圾食物).

He ate cakes and canned (罐頭的) food.

Sometimes he had no food.

He stole (偷) tomatoes from his neighbor's balcony.

Some neighbors gave him some food.

But they didn't think he lived by himself.

They saw his mother come to the apartment where her son lived.

They saw her leave without her son.

It took a long time before they thought she wasn't living with her son.

How long? Two years!

Then they called the police.

When the police came, they found an empty refrigerator.

The trash can had cake wrappers (包裝紙) and empty (空的) cans.

His mother had nothing of hers in the apartment.

Then the police found his mother.

She said her son lived with her.

She said she didn't know why her son said she left him for two years.

But neighbors in her new town didn't know about her son.

This boy was very brave (勇敢的)!

He was having a hard life, but he went to school every day.

He was such a good student that nobody thought anything was wrong.

Now he is in foster care (寄養).

A new family will take good care of him!

趣味小點
Tasty Tidbit

And in today's Tasty Tidbit

Snails have teeth!

They have one thousand to twelve thousand teeth!

There are many lines of teeth… on their tongues!

When a tooth wears out or breaks, a new one grows in.

For some kinds of snails, that's just three teeth a day.

For other kinds, that's several hundred teeth falling out or growing in a day!

Snail teeth wear out and break, but they are strong too.

Sea snail teeth are one of the strongest natural materials in the world.

Sea snails crush rocks with their teeth!
