Kinmen Bridge Opens After 12 Years

Building a bridge can take years.

For the Kinmen Bridge, it took almost 12 years!

On October 30th, the Kinmen Bridge finally opened.

It connects Kinmen Island to Lieyu.

The project officially started in January 2011.

And after all that hard work, eventually the bridge was completed.

Before the bridge was opened, it was sometimes hard for people who lived on Lieyu to get to Kinmen Island.

The residents of Lieyu depended on the ferries (渡船) to take them to the bigger Kinmen Island.

But, if the weather was really bad, then the ferry trips would have to pause (暫停).

Now the people of Lieyu can get to Kinmen by themselves by driving over the bridge!

NASA Participates in Test to Hurl Satellites into Space

Even though we can’t see them, there are many man-made satellites orbiting our Earth.

How many? Over 4,500!

One company wants to make it cheaper and greener to send future satellites into space.

The company is called SpinLaunch and they have built a machine to test if they can ‘hurl’ satellites instead of using a rocket.

To hurl something means to throw it really, really hard.

During this 10th test, they were able to hurl the satellite over 7,600 meters into the sky.

And their goal is to eventually reach 60,000 meters!

SpinLaunch’s machine works by spinning (旋轉) a giant arm really, really fast.

Once the arm reaches the right speed, it releases the projectile (拋射物).

A projectile is something that is shot out of a machine.

NASA hopes to be able to use SpinLaunch’s service to send things into space in a cheaper and cleaner way!

A Restaurant Just for Dogs

Some restaurants allow people to bring their dogs.

But would you believe there’s a high-class restaurant that’s exclusively for dogs?

It’s called Dogue which is spelled D-O-G-U-E.

The restaurant was started by chef Rahmi Massarweh who is actually a classically trained French chef!

It opened its doors in late September in San Francisco.

Each meal comes with three luxurious dishes (豪華餐點) designed especially for dogs.

Although the food looks good enough for people to eat, some of the meat is raw (生的) so it’s not safe for humans.

So, would you spend a lot of money on a special meal for your special pet?

The company SpinLaunch has built a device to test if they can ‘hurl’ satellites instead of using a rocket.

They hope to use a similar device to launch satellites into space one day

If they are successful, it will be cheaper and greener to send satellites into space
