A Big Decline in Australia's Environment

Many amazing animals (動物) and plants (植物) live in Australia.

And Australia is famous because it is home to many living things that are very different.

It has high diversity of species

But now, scientists say they are seeing a "shocking" loss of biodiversity

A new report says there is a serious decline in biodiversity.

The report also finds that there is now more habitat loss, and higher levels of pollution.

All this means Australia's environment is deteriorating (惡化中).

If you follow the news, you might have noticed that Australia has had many droughts (旱災), fires (火災), and floods (水災) in the past five years.

All these natural disasters (自然災害) have left many animals dead.

It has also destroyed a lot of natural habitat.

Scientists believe climate change is one of the causes.

One environmentalist says the report was, "a wake-up call to the damage humans are doing to the world around us".

Why Do Mosquitoes Bite Some People More Than Others?

Why are some people bitten by mosquitoes more than others?

Some researchers looked into what parts of us mosquitoes like.

Here's what they found.

They noticed that pregnant women (孕婦), people with high body temperature, people who sweat (流汗) more, and those with darker skin are bitten more often.

Blood type could also be a factor.

Studies found that mosquitoes are not so attracted to (沒那麼吸引) people with blood type A.

However, they find people with blood type O a little tastier (更美味).

The experts say there are over 3,500 species of mosquitoes worldwide, but only a fraction of these bite people (只有一部分會咬人).

And only the females of the species bite.

The female mosquitoes need the protein (蛋白質) in the blood for their eggs.

Mosquito bites are super annoying because they become itchy (癢) and can swell (腫).

To avoid getting bitten, it is best to cover your skin with clothing.

You might also try using insect repellent (防蚊液).

It might help, especially if you're going outside, to places where there are lots of mosquitoes.

Spray the insect repellent on any exposed skin

Sleeping under a mosquito net (防蚊帳) can also help you avoid getting bitten.
