Student Breaks High Jump Record in Taiwan
How high can you jump?
Jumping is fun.
If you love to run and jump, you can join track and field (田徑).
In this sport, people compete to see who can run the fastest and jump the highest.
Some people take it really seriously.
Recently, a Taiwanese student broke the national record for the high jump
Lin Pei-hsuan (林沛萱) jumped 182 centimeters high.
She did it during National Middle School Athletic Games held in Hsinchu County.
She broke the old record for middle school girls, which was set 32 years ago.
In fact, her jump met the standard to join the Asian Games.
Lin is not old enough to join the Asian Games yet, but her future is bright.
She did the high jump as part of a pentathlon (五項全能), which includes 5 activities.
She also did well in the other activities, like the 800-meter race (八百米賽跑) and the 100-meter hurdles (百米欄).
For her performance, Lin won the gold medal in the pentathlon.
Why does she like this kind of sport?
She says she got into track and field because she thought running was fun, and she liked to win first place in track meets.
Her coach (教練), Mr. Chen, says that Lin has a lot of self-discipline (自律能力).
She even tells her coach that her training (訓練) is not intense enough (強度不夠).
Now she is a record high jumper.
How does Lin feel about her achievement?
She said it met her expectations.

Japan's "ispace" Says Lander Probably Crashed on the Moon
Do you know what a moon lander is?
It's a spacecraft that can land on the moon
This machine can help people learn more about the moon, but it's not easy to get it there.
So far, only three countries have succeeded.
The United States, China, and the former Soviet Union (蘇聯) have all landed spacecraft on the moon.
Recently, a Japanese company called ispace tried to send their own spacecraft to the moon.
But, the mission didn't go as planned.
What went wrong?
First, ispace had to get their spacecraft from Earth to the Moon.
This part was successful!
But then, they had to safely land the spacecraft on the moon's surface
That is the most difficult part.
When the spacecraft got close to the moon, it began to speed up, going faster and faster.
Suddenly, ispace lost contact (失去了聯繫) with the spacecraft.
They are not sure what happened, but they think it probably crashed (撞到) into the moon.
That's too bad.
According to the plan, once the spacecraft landed on the moon, it was supposed to do some experiments (實驗).
The spacecraft was carrying two rovers (探測器) that could explore the moon, and a new battery (電池) they wanted to test.
Unfortunately, those experiments can't happen now…
But the mission wasn't a complete failure!
ispace says the mission gave them important data.
The company will use this data to try landing on the moon again in 2024.

New Studies Suggest Best Time of Day for Exercise
What is the best time of day to exercise?
Some people work out (鍛煉) early in the morning, some work out in the afternoon after work or school.
Of course, moving around at any time of day is good for your body.
But what is the most effective time (最有效的時間) to work out?
Several new studies have asked this question, and the answer is…
Well, it depends on what you want.
If you want your heart (心臟) to be stronger, you should exercise in the morning, between 8 and 11 o'clock.
That's according to a new study published (發表) in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
This study showed that morning exercise improves heart health for all kinds of people.
What if you want to build muscle?
The afternoon or the evening is the best time to build muscle, according to other studies.
This is because our muscles get stronger during the day.
By late afternoon, our muscles are at peak strength (肌肉力量達到頂峰), which lets us lift more weight.
So is there any time that you should not exercise?
Actually, the studies say that working out between midnight and 6AM can harm our health
Late at night, our bodies need to rest and repair (休息和修復), so it's the wrong time to exercise.
These studies are helpful for people who want to plan their workout.
But we shouldn't worry about the time too much.
The studies make it clear (研究清楚地表明) that exercise at any time during the day, can improve our health.
