NUK and ASE Make Shoes from Industrial Waste
Wherever you go, you are most likely (最有可能) wearing shoes.
They protect our feet from rough surfaces (粗糙的表面).
And the thicker the shoe soles, the more comfortable we can walk.
而且鞋底越厚，我們走起路來就越舒服。
Shoe soles are often made with different materials (材料).
These include natural ones, like rubber and leather, or man-made materials.

The National University of Kaohsiung and ASE Group are working together to make textiles from semiconductor waste (利用半導體廢料製造紡織品).
That textile (紡織品) is being used to make soles for shoes.
The research teams found a way to recycle the plastic from the semiconductor manufacturing process (半導體製造).
The plastic comes from adhesive tape used specifically for semiconductor wafer dicing.
塑料來自專門用於切割半導體晶圓的膠帶。
The textile is being used by Puhu Footwear (彪琥鞋業).
55 percent of the shoe soles are made from semiconductor sector waste!
Taiwan's electronics factories generate (產生) about 200 metric tons of waste each year.
This will hopefully encourage (鼓勵) more creativity and waste recycling.

Green Makeover for Champs-Elysees
Ahh, Paris… The City of Love.
It's one of the world's top gastronomy capitals (美食之都).
Not to mention the vivid fashion scene (生動的服裝秀).
And it's also known for the Louvre Museum, Notre-Dame cathedral, and the Eiffel Tower.

Another famous landmark (地標) is the Avenue des Champs-Elysees.
The avenue is 1.9 kilometers long, and 70 meters wide.
It connects two other famous spots, the Place de la Concorde and Arc de Triomphe.

The Champs-Elysees is also called "the most beautiful avenue in the world".
But it has fallen into disrepair (年久失修).
More than 60,000 cars pass through it every day, bringing pollution to the area.
The sidewalks have cracks, and the greenery is not-so-green anymore.

Paris's Mayor Anne Hidalgo wants to restore the avenue to its former glory by 2030.

She plans to spend $250 million U.S. dollars to turn the street into a garden!
The project's first goal is to cut down on (減少) car pollution.
They will reduce the eight car lanes (車道) to four, while adding more trees and bike lanes.
And from 2030, only electric vehicles (電動車) would be allowed to drive on the Champs-Elysees.
The mayor also has plans for the Place de la Concorde, which is the city's largest square (廣場).
The renovations will be completed in time for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

Baby Gorilla Hugged Back to Health
A hug is a powerful gesture.

Researchers have found that hugging can help you relax.
When you've had a hard day, they can be comforting (安慰).
And doctors say hugging can even make a sick baby feel better.
But can it be true for some animals, too?
Kaius is a baby gorilla who was born in Australia's Mogo Wildlife Park.
Unfortunately, his mom rejected (放棄) him because she had some medical conditions.
Baby Kaius got very sick, and the zookeepers had to think of a way to help him.
The tiny gorilla developed a lung infection and couldn't breathe well.
這隻年幼的大猩猩患了肺部感染，無法正常呼吸。
The healthcare team (醫療團隊) decided to take care of him like a human baby.
After doctors treated Kaius, zookeeper Chad Staples held the baby in his arms for a whole night, trying to calm his breathing.
醫生治療過 Kaius之後，動物園管理員Chad Staples將大猩猩寶寶抱在懷裡整整一夜，試著讓他的呼吸平靜下來。
The skin-on-skin contact (肌膚接觸) helped lower Kaius' heart rate, and his breathing stabilized (穩定了下來)!

And after seven days of tender care, Kaius is feeling better and stronger than ever!
