機車考照太簡單,審計部要求改善
Taiwan's Audit Office says Scooter License Test Too Easy.

Taiwan has the highest density (密度) of scooters in the world.

Data shows that up until August 2022, there were around 14 million scooters in the country.

That means, there is a scooter for every 2 people in Taiwan!

Scooters are a main form of transportation in Taiwan.

But they are also a part of many traffic accidents.

Data shows that 85% of traffic accidents involve scooters.

Statistics from the Ministry of Traffic and Communications show that from January to June this year, there were 998 scooter and motorcycle deaths.

And every year, there are more and more traffic accidents involving scooters.

Taiwan's Audit Office says part of the problem may be a lack of safety awareness.

And the office says many people don't know enough about defensive riding concepts.

審計部說台灣機車駕照考試太容易,測不出「應試者該有的安全駕駛觀念及防禦駕駛能力」。

The office said one way to improve this is to make licensing tests harder.

In the current road test, people are tested on traffic signals, changing lanes, 2-point turning, balancing over a straight-line course and others.

But all this is done on a test course.
Some people say the test should be done on a real road or something like a real road.

Another option would be to increase the difficulty of the road test.

Beginning in March, people were required to watch videos that show dangers on the road.

They would then have to answer 5 questions from the videos.

And they have to answer 4 questions correctly to go on to the next step.

This test is mandatory (強制的) for all before they can take the licensing test.

Starting from 2024, the written test will also be made harder.

The MOTC expects that less people will pass the test.

And they hope this will lead to better drivers, and fewer accidents on the road.

App幫你找出看電影上廁所最佳時機
An App that Tells You When to Take a Bathroom Break

Most people love going to the movies.

Whether it's horror, action, comedy or animation, there's something for everyone.

Sitting in a comfy chair, holding a big cup of soda and a bucket of popcorn…

Watching a gigantic screen, listening to stereo effects, what more could you ask for?

But suddenly, halfway through the movie, you feel a sudden urge (衝動) to go to the bathroom.

What do you do?

Go and miss a part of the plot (劇情)?

A man had the same problem.

Dan Gardner was watching the movie King Kong in 2005.

The movie is 201 minutes long.

And Dan had to pee!

He said he was "in agony", but he chose to finish the movie.

When he was leaving, he wanted to tell people waiting for the next show about a scene in the movie.

He thought it was the perfect scene to go to the bathroom.

He decided he would make a website to tell people when to take bathroom breaks during a movie.

He created "Runpee".

The website had information that told people when they could go to the bathroom during different movies.

And the site had information telling people what happened during those scenes, so they wouldn't miss anything.

Then Dan made the website into an app.

The app also tells you the number of times you can go to the bathroom during a movie.

Longer movies have more bathroom times.

比較長的電影就會有更多的廁所時間。

To find these bathroom times, Dan says he and his sister watch tons of movies every year.

They bring a stopwatch (碼表) and note pad.

They time the movie and taking notes to find the best times to go to the bathroom.

Over the years, many users wrote to thank Dan.

Dan says he's just glad that he helped people enjoy movies.
