Historical Artifacts Found in Tainan Park
Do you know the oldest city in Taiwan?
Lots of people say Tainan City is the oldest city in the country.
Some buildings there are hundreds of years old.
How long have people lived in Tainan, after all?
The answer may surprise you.
Recently, Tainan city workers found some artifacts (文物) that are thousands of years old.
The workers were renovating (翻新) Yongkang Park.
As they were digging in the ground, they started to find some special objects
They thought the objects might be historical artifacts.
Artifacts are things used by people long ago, that have survived until today.
According to law (按照法律), when workers find artifacts in the ground, they need to stop their work so historical experts can check it out.
The experts came to take a look, and discovered there were a few different kinds of artifacts.
They found some orange-colored pottery
The pottery had special patterns made by rope.
The experts also found some farming tools, such as hoes and axes
They even found mounds of shells (貝丘), made by ancient people.
These shells are useful to the experts, who can study them to learn what kind of food people ate long ago.
They think these artifacts came from the Niuchouzi Culture
The Niuchouzi Culture are the people who lived in the area of Tainan thousands of years ago.
The historical experts say these artifacts are between 3,000 and 4,500 years old.
Now, the city of Tainan has changed its plans for Yongkang Park.
In one part of the park, they will continue renovations.
But in the place where they found the artifacts, they will keep on searching (繼續尋找), to see what else they can find.

Michigan Boy Saves School Bus
When you are on the bus, how do you pass the time?
Most of us look at our phones.
But some people pay more attention to their surroundings
That's how one student in the US was recently able to save his school bus from crashing
Who is this student?
Dillon Reeves is a seventh grade student (國一的學生) in Michigan.
Dillon takes the bus to and from school every day.
His parents refuse (拒絕) to buy him a phone, so during the bus ride, Dillon just relaxes (放鬆).
One afternoon, he noticed something strange with the bus driver.
While the other students were playing on their phones, Dillon noticed that the bus driver had passed out (公車司機昏倒了).
The driver was having a medical emergency, and could not control the bus.
Dillon jumped out of his seat to take control of the bus.
Dillon
He turned the steering wheel (方向盤) to keep the bus on the road, and then he stepped on the brakes (剎車) to stop it.
As the bus stopped, Dillon yelled to the other students to call for help.
The whole story was captured by the bus's video camera.
When people saw the video of Dillon saving the bus, they said he was a hero (英雄).
Dillon says he just knew what to do at that moment.
But his parents still won't buy him a phone.
What does Dillon think about that?
He says "Whatever. My parents are old school."

Indian State to Open New Lion Sanctuary
Where do lions live in the wild?
Wild lions live in Africa, right?
Some of them do, but there is another kind of lion, too.
"Asiatic Lions" (亞洲獅) live in Asia.
They are an endangered species
Today, wild Asiatic Lions are only found in one place.
That is Gir National Park, in the Gujarat state of India
Gir National Park is a lion sanctuary
That means it exists to protect the lions.
The park has been so successful, it now has too many lions.
There is a population (人口) of over 400 lions in the park.
So, the state of Gujarat has decided to create another lion sanctuary.
They will open the Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in another part of Gujarat, and move 40 of the lions to that sanctuary.
Some experts (專家) say this is not enough.
They say some of the lions should be moved to a different part of India.
If the lions live across a larger area, it will be easier for their population to survive diseases.
Now that the population of Asiatic lions is increasing, people must decide how to manage them.
