What's going on everyone, it's time for a new episode of News Bites…
I'm Brody Halverson.
And I'm Paz Bueno.
Today's stories…
Taiwan makes cables for wind energy, and a hero saves a climber's life in California.
And in today's Tasty Tidbit…where do sheep go on vacation?
Keep on listening to hear the answer!
Let's get into it.

Taiwan and Denmark Team Up For Green Energy
Have you ever been to Denmark (丹麥)?
It's a country in Northern Europe.
Denmark is right next to the windy North Sea.
So, they have lots of off-shore wind turbines.
In fact, they are one of the top countries in the world for offshore wind energy.
Danish companies have some of the best technology in this area.
And now, these companies are teaming up with Taiwan.
What will they do?
They want to solve a problem with wind energy.
Taiwan's offshore turbines are on the ocean, mostly on the west coast.
Out there they can catch the most wind.
They change the wind into electrical power.
But, how do they send this power across the ocean, back to us on land?
They use undersea cables.
These cables can carry power along the ocean floor.
They are huge, high voltage cables with a triple core design.
The only problem is, these cables are not easy to make.
Usually, Taiwan has to buy them from another country.
So far, no company here knows how to manufacture this kind of cable.
Until now.
A Danish company and a Taiwanese company are teaming up.
They will form a new company together, to build a factory in Kaohsiung.
And by 2027, they will begin to supply cable for Taiwan's new offshore wind projects.
Soon, ships will carry these enormous cables out to sea,
….plug them into the wind turbines,
…and drop them down to the bottom of the ocean,
…where they can transmit electricity (傳輸電力) back to Taiwan.
They will help power our cities and our homes.
When Taiwan can make its own cables, wind energy can grow even faster.
Let's team up with Denmark, level up our technology and keep up with the green energy revolution.

Off-Duty US Air Force Captain Rescues Climber
Imagine you are climbing a mountain.
You are holding onto a slippery rock, high in the air.
The wind is blowing, the rain is falling, and your arms are getting tired.
You can't hold on for much longer…. Oh no!
Your fingers slip, and you fall down, down, down.
Who can save you?
That's what happened to a climber in California (加州).
He was trying to climb up Half Dome Mountain, in Yosemite Park.
Half Dome is 2,700 meters tall.
The climber had almost reached the top, when he slipped and fell.
He nearly fell all the way down the mountain.
Luckily, he landed on a ledge after only 25 meters.
Now the man was really in trouble.
He was badly hurt, and he was stuck on the tiny ledge.
But another climber saw him fall down.
Joshua Haveman was on a nearby trail.
He knew the man needed help, and he sprang into action.
Haveman climbed across the rock face to reach the other man.
When he got there, he saw that both the man's legs were broken.
In this situation, most people would panic.
But Haveman knew what to do.
Haveman is a US Air Force Captain, so he is prepared for emergencies.
Haveman
First, he made two splints out of sticks, to protect the hurt man's legs.
Next, he wrapped the man's ankles with bandages from the first aid kit he carries.
He even gave the man his own jacket.
Then, Haveman called the park rangers (公園管理員), and reported their location.
When the park rangers came, Haveman helped them carry the man down the mountain with ropes.
How did Haveman know what to do?
He says his military training (軍事訓練) taught him how to take care of hurt people.
He also says his climbing experience was useful in this situation.
Now, both climbers are ok.
People are saying Captain Haveman is a hero.
Haveman just says he knew something like this may happen, so he was ready.
