Description

We are pleased to welcome Dave Cusano a fellow UB Crew Alumni to the Rowing Friends podcast.  Dave discussed the challenges and successes of his rowing team's season, highlighting the impact of weather and other factors on their performance. He noted that despite the difficulties, the team maintained a positive attitude and achieved some success at nationals. David also shared his philosophy on coaching, emphasizing the importance of producing good humans through rowing rather than focusing solely on competitive results. Additionally, he mentioned his plans to coach a small group of college athletes over the summer and expressed hope for the success of two alumni at U23 trials.  Dave shared his 25-year coaching journey, starting at UB and moving to Ohio before returning to Fayetteville, where he became the head coach of FM's rowing team. Dave noted that the boathouse, located next to SU, hosts around 350 rowers in the spring, and he appreciates the opportunity for his teams to learn from SU's successful rowing style. Dave reminisces about his college rowing experiences, sharing various memories from his time at UB. He recalls specific locations like the Augusta hotel during spring break, a pub called King George's, and several bars on Main Street. David also mentions memorable moments with teammates, including naming their boat "Hustle Stack" (later changed to "Muscle Lack" by the heavyweights) The discussion concluded with a reflection on alumni rowing events, noting that while there was strong interest, finding enough alumni participants to fill boats had been challenging.  We plan to reach back out to Dave in the future to catch up.  Hope you enjoyed the episode.
