Heathcliff pays him a visit, and once his Landlord leaves, he asks Nelly to continue her story. He wants to know how Heathcliff made his money and how he came to purchase Thrushcross Grange and Wuthering Heights. Nelly claims that she doesn’t know how he made his money, but that after those three years he came back a rich and changed man. About six months Catherin’s Marriage to Edgar Linton, Heathcliff returns to Yorkshire, and surprises Nelly at Thrushcross Grange. When he comes inside Catherine is overwhelmed by the sight of him and becomes silly with happiness at her old friend’s return. Edgar is seriously jealous of Heathcliff’s change; he is now a strong, wealthy, proper gentleman. He says that Hindley has invited him to stay at Wuthering Heights, which surprises everyone and he explains that when he arrived seeking Nelly, Hindley was gambling and he sat down to play with them, making reckless bets and showing signs of wealth. Catherine and Isabella begin to visit Wuthering Heights and Heathcliff starts to visit the Grange. Isabella starts to fall for the tall dark gentleman, who despite his love for Catherine, doesn’t push Isabella away. Nelly thinks that Heathcliff still wants revenge on Hindley, Edgar, and Catherine, and vows to watch him.
