Today I'm joined by four standout players from the formative years of Lake Braddock Secondary School football:Ron Heinz (’76) – Offensive Lineman, Virginia TechRobert Hughes (’78) – Running Back, James Madison UniversityBob Klaren (’77) – Linebacker, University of Richmond & UT MartinKarl "Catman" Morris (’76) – Linebacker, Shepherd UniversityWe explore what it was like to attend a brand-new school—no history, no traditions, just the chance to build something of their own. These players helped define the early identity of the Lake Braddock Bruins during one of the most competitive periods in Northern Virginia high school football. But this conversation goes beyond the field. We talk about life in Burke and Springfield, VA, during a transformative era—post-Vietnam, the emergence of disco, and a country going through major cultural shifts. From tough rivalries to lasting friendships, these Bruins reflect on what made those years unforgettable. We also follow their journeys after high school—through college ball, careers, and the personal highs and lows that shaped who they are. It’s a nostalgic and inspiring look at football, community, and coming of age in a time of change.
