This is some serious Dad wisdom. Literally. These are the words my Dad said to me over and over again as I was growing up. He didn’t want me to let myself off too easy, especially when I was in control of the outcome of the situation.
Forgiving yourself for your mistakes is one thing, but outright lying to yourself isn’t a good thing. True repentance involves coming to terms with your mistake, then taking action to make things right.
Talk is cheap, especially when it’s not true. You can lie to yourself until you’re blue in the face, but nothing’s going to change. Being honest with yourself and owning up to your actions is the only thing that will help you make that change.
