Main Points or Ideas

Characteristics of False Teachers (vs. 10)

  1. Insubordinate

    • They are a law to themselves.
    • The Bible will be a resource for what they teach but not the source of what they teach.
    • They act and treat you like they can’t be touched.
  2. Empty Talkers

    • They are fluent but shallow.
    • We become hearers of the Word, not doers.
    • It is not a lack of information, it is a lack of application.
    • They talk a good game but they don’t know what they’re talking about.
  3. Deceivers

    • The Bible is a resource for their teaching but not the source.
    • Unsaved people can give you good advice.
    • You can benefit your life without Jesus.
    • Christianity is not just good advice and marriage pointers.

What distinguishes Christianity is Jesus’ sacrifice for us on the cross.

False teachers teach everything but the gospel.

When everything is wrong, it’s still okay because you are still with Christ.

When people are giving this kind of teaching, their mouths must be stopped (vs. 11)

  • Conclusion

Our hearts should go out to those who have bought into false teaching.
