Dr. Jim Tillotson explains that everyone wants success, which can be found in the even verses of Proverbs 3:1-10, but the odd verses provide the directions for how to achieve what God promises in the even verses.
Scripture Text
Proverbs 3:1-10
Main Points or Ideas
- An Admonition (verse 1) - Don't forget God's law by turning your back on what you know is true, and let your heart keep His commandments by moving from "I ought to" (mind) to "I have to" (will) to "I want to" (heart).
- An Assurance (verse 2) - Those who honor their parents and the Lord generally experience length of days, long life, and peace.
- An Appeal (verses 3-4) - Bind mercy and truth around your neck and write them on your heart to find favor and high esteem with God and man.
- A Trust Issue (verses 5-6) - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your paths. Put confidence in the Lord, do things God's way and get God's results.
Conclusion
God will ask students to do some things that humanly make no sense, but without faith it is impossible to please Him, and trusting God's way leads to the incredible life that those like Noah, Naaman, and Joshua experienced.
