Description

In this episode, the Erica, Kesha, Toni and our guest Charlene explore how Black literature not only reflects who we are, but also who we could be when we give ourselves permission to dream boldly.

We start by diving into speculative fiction by Black authors—those visionaries who reimagine the future with us at the center. From alternate worlds to liberated timelines, we talk about how these stories expand our sense of possibility and remind us that Black futures are limitless.

Then we travel back to our younger selves, revisiting the books we wish we had encountered in middle and high school. The ones that would’ve affirmed us, challenged us, or simply made us feel seen. Now that we’ve read them as adults, we reflect on how they reshape our understanding of identity, joy, and belonging.

And finally, we close with something tender: love letters to our younger reading selves. Each Sista speaks to the girl who didn’t yet know how powerful her voice, her curiosity, and her imagination would become. It’s a moment of healing, gratitude, and celebration—because romanticizing ourselves is a practice, and Black literature helps us do it beautifully.

This episode is for anyone who’s ever found themselves in a story or wished they had sooner. Pull up a chair, grab your favorite bookish beverage, and join us as we honor the past, imagine the future, and love on ourselves in the present.

Happy Black History Month!!!!
