On this episode we chat with artist Gina Skwoz aka Mow Skwoz. Originally from Perth, Australia, Gina relocated to Los Angeles after meeting her husband, musician Kevin Rutmanis (Hepa.titus, Tomakawk, Melvins, Cows). Gina's art is typically abstract and macabre nature and aligns perfectly with her husband's musical creative endeavors. Along with running merch for her husband's projects and such legendary bands as the Melvins, Gina has created both artwork and music videos for Kevin's most recent project, Hepa.titus. The two have also joined forces in a musical collaboration entitled Lords and Ladies Kevin.
In recent years Gina has painted primarily using watercolors but has worked in a variety of mediums. She shows us some of her art (viewable via the youtube episode... you might also see Gina's dog and cat) and gives us some backstory into her love of the less traditional arts. In fact her moniker, Mow Skwoz, was actually taken from a song by the eclectic, experimental rock band, Mr. Bungle. We also discuss the deadly creatures of her homeland and the strange noises that piss smelling koala's make. LA bands, touring, Influences, nerding out music, Australia's fine cuisine including vegemite; we cover all this and more. Enjoy!
