A landmark Swedish study by used car broker Kvdbil analyzed data from 1,366 vehicles (a mix of 723 all-electric cars and 643 plug-in hybrids). The results were striking: eight out of ten vehicles still had over 90% of their original battery capacity, even after years of use. The findings were so reassuring they even took the researchers by surprise. "We were a bit surprised that there were so many that were this good," said Martin Reinholdsson, the test manager for the study. This powerful data proves that significant battery degradation is not the major problem many feared it would be.The real barrier to EV adoption is no longer the technology itself, but the outdated public perception of it. As one study noted, if consumers knew their EV could be as durable and long-lasting as a vintage Honda Accord, their fears would likely disappear. Thanks to this new data, the answer is clear: they absolutely can be.
